As the battle over Market Basket enters another week, there appears to be no sign of it coming to an end.
Workers are demanding no less than the return of ousted CEO Arthur T. Demoulas, who was fired last month by a board controlled by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.
“We have drawn our line in the stand stating that we will work for no other CEO and that other potential buyers should take pause and give serious thought to pulling their offers,” according to a post on the Save Market Basket Facebook page.
The company’s board of directors met Friday for several hours, saying they were considering an offer from Arthur T. and others to buy the company, but gave no timetable of when a decision might be made, if at all. The board also stood by the new co-CEO’s, and urged employees to go back to work.
As store shelves get more and more empty, customers are stuck in the middle, with many heading to competitors.
“It’s hard because even people that have kids, that have a family come here because other stores can be expensive,” said Market Basket customer Mattie Skelton.
How do you think this will all end? Will the workers be successful in getting Arthur T. back as CEO? Or will the board of directors be able to wait out worker protests? Share your comments below, and watch for them on WBZ News in the Morning from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.
