Sick Concertgoers Swamp Mansfield With Ambulance Runs To Xfinity Center

MANSFIELD (CBS) – Several concertgoers had to be taken to the hospital during Saturday night's Keith Urban concert at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield.

Fire officials told the Attleboro Sun Chronicle that Mansfield had so many calls they had to bring in assistance from Norton, Foxboro, North Attleboro, Plainville and Easton.

Numerous ambulances were seen coming and going from the concert venue.

In a statement released Sunday morning, Xfinity Center officials said there were approximately 20 people transported to a hospital with what they described as "non-serious, alcohol-related symptoms."

Mansfield police and fire officials reported that Fire and EMS treated 46 people and transported 22 to hospitals with mostly alcohol-related illnesses.

More than 50 people were taken into protective custody and a number of others were arrested for alcohol-related issues.

More than 18,000 people attended the concert.

A Mansfield fire official said the concert response made it difficult for firefighters to keep up with other medical emergencies in the town, requiring ambulances from neighboring towns to help with medical calls, the Sun Chronicle reported.
