Human Remains Found In Box On Front Lawn Of Duxbury Home

DUXBURY (CBS) – Authorities are investigating the discovery of human remains found Sunday in a box on the front lawn of a Duxbury home.

At around 11:36 a.m., Duxbury Police received a report of a suspicious box on the front lawn of a home at the intersection of Alexander Way at Walker Pond, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. When they arrived, police found the box had been partly opened and that a strong odor was emanating from it.

The State Police Bomb Squad responded, x-rayed the box and determined it contained human remains. The remains were taken to the Medical Examiner's Office while State Police investigate the incident.

The age and gender of the remains have yet to be determined.

Chandler Rodriguez, who discovered the box along with his father Hector, described the moment he found the item.

"It was probably wrapped up 15 or 20 times. That's when we knew with the smell and the wrap that something was not quite right," Chandler said. "There was kind of an odor coming from it. We think maybe garbage or something."

One possibly theory of how the box arrived at the scene - it could have fallen from a car or could have been thrown from it. The home is not far from Route 3.

"I just feel very sad for whoever the family is," said Hector Rodriguez.
