BOSTON (CBS) — Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell collapsed while speaking at a speaking engagement in Lake Tahoe on Thursday, but is expected to be OK.

The 80-year-old Russell has been a popular public speaker since retiring, conveying his “team-first” mentality to corporations and groups around the world. He felt faint while addressing a group on Thursday and was taken to a local hospital, but remained conscience throughout.

The Celtics told WBZ-TV that Russell is expected to fly out of Lake Tahoe later Thursday evening.

Russell won 11 titles with the Celtics from 1956-1969, including nine straight. He won five MVP’s, and in 2009 the NBA re-named the NBA Finals MVP award the “Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP Award” in his honor.

The Celtics great was honored with a statue in Boston in November 2013.
