Wednesday's Child: 10-Year-Old Maddy

BOSTON (CBS) - Maryenid who also goes by Maddy is a loveable 10-year-old Latina. Described as a leader, she can be very outgoing, assertive and in charge, but also helpful and cooperative. She can also be parentified at times and needs to be reminded that she is the child. Her personality is funny, dramatic and sassy.

Maddy loves animals, riding her bicycle, dance, gymnastics and playing with other children. She can get jealous of other children when she is not receiving the attention herself and can tantrum when limits are set. Maddy does well in school, especially when she has a teacher that is direct and firm. Maddy receives therapy and psychiatric services to help her with issues around anxiety, loss, neglect and abandonment.

Legally free for adoption, Maddy will need a family with at least one female parent where she is the only or much younger child. Structure, positive reinforcement and firm limits are important when parenting Maddy. Also Maddy's new family will need to help her maintain contact with her half-sister and possibly a prior guardian.

To learn more about Maryenid, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
