Saugus Man Allegedly Shot And Killed His Bulldog That Attacked 9-Month Old

SAUGUS (CBS) – A 50-year-old Saugus man is facing serious charges for allegedly shooting and killing his bulldog after it bit a 9-month old child.

Richard Malatias is facing two counts of possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and animal cruelty, according to Saugus Police.

Maltais allegedly shot his dog three times in the head.

Maltais will be summonsed to Lynn District Court at a later date, police said.

At around 1:26 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a report of shots fired at Maltais's home on the Lynn Fells Parkway. When officers arrived, they learned Maltais had shot and killed his English bulldog that had allegedly bitten a 9-month old child and several others inside his home, according to police.

Maltais told police the dog had been been a rescue dog.

Police discovered the dog's body under the deck of the home. They also recovered two .380 shell casings along with an unspent round and a Sig Sauer P230 .380. Officer also found a Ruger .22 rifle and a boxe of ammo.
