Mansfield PD: Man Left Dog In Hot Car While Attending Vans Warped Tour Concert

MANSFIELD (CBS) - A Maine resident is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly leaving his dog locked in a vehicle while he attended a concert in Mansfield.

Police say Edwin F. Harrington Jr., 60, of Boothbay Harbor, Maine was at the Xfinity Center for the Vans Warped Tour on Thursday.

He's accused of leaving his Boston Terrier/Bulldog mix in the back seat of his car.

The car was parked in the sun, and outside temperatures reached 85 degrees on Thursday. Officers say the windows were rolled down about three inches. But, citing medical studies, officials say that makes little difference as far as interior temperature of a car. They suggested interior temperatures could have reached 130 degrees.

Police found the dog at about 2:30 p.m. Harrington had last been seen by the car around 10:45 a.m.

Officers were able to reach in the window and unlock the car.

They say the dog, identified as "Tuffy" by its owner, collapsed out of the vehicle and was unable to move its rear legs when they opened the door.

The dog was suffering from heat stroke and shock.

Tuffy was taken to Tufts Veterinary Emergency Treatment and Specialties in Walpole. The dog's condition was not made public.
