RAYMOND, N.H. (CBS) – A 56-year-old man drowned on Saturday as he was swimming in Governor’s Lake.

At around 11 a.m., the victim, identified as M. Lee Ribblett, of Raymond, attempted to swim into the lake to retrieve his canoe that had been blown from the shoreline, according New Hampshire State Police. The victim, however, struggled to stay afloat. A witness recovered the victim and brought him to shore and performed CPR on him.

First responders brought the victim to Exeter Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Police are investigating the incident but do not believe alcohol or foul play was involved.

No further information was immediately available.
