Four-Alarm Fire Destroys Vacant Bridgewater Apartment Building

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) – A vacant 10-unit apartment building was destroyed and another seriously damaged in a four-alarm blaze Tuesday morning that fire officials are calling suspicious.

Firefighters responded to the early-morning 911 call to find one house engulfed in flames and were immediately concerned about surrounding homes. The fire soon jumped to the second vacant building.

Both buildings had been vacant for several years.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Carl Stevens reports.

Heat from the fire also damaged the siding and roof of an adjacent business.

One firefighter suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to Brockton Hospital.

Bridgewater Fire Chief George Rogers called the fire suspicious.

He said crews were at the building on Monday running drills because of previous small fires that had been set there.

"That's a normal procedure for fire departments across the state and across the country just to go and do pre-plan of an event," Rogers said.
