Gov. Patrick To Attend Panama Presidential Inauguration

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is hitting the road again, this time to attend the swearing-in of the president of Panama.

Patrick is planning to leave the state Monday for Panama. There he'll attend the inauguration of President Juan Carlos Varela Rodríguez.

It's a return trip for Patrick.

In March, the governor headed a delegation of state officials and business leaders on a weeklong trade mission to Panama City and Mexico City.

Patrick said the goal of that trip was to strengthen existing trade relationships and to build new ones between the economies of Massachusetts and the two countries.

Patrick more recently embarked on trade mission to Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Critics have faulted Patrick for spending too much time out of state.

Patrick is scheduled to return to Massachusetts on Wednesday.
