Child Living In Falmouth Home Where Suspected Meth Lab Discovered

EAST FALMOUTH (CBS) – A suspected meth lab was discovered at a home in East Falmouth on Thursday, and police say a child was living at the residence.

Following an extensive investigation, Falmouth Police, the Barnstable Narcotics Unit and the DEA Clandestine Lab Enforcement Team raided the home at 87 Chestnut Street on Thursday, where they say they found an active meth lab.

The person living in the home, identified by police as 33-year-old Edward Rooney, was pulled over in his car a short time after the raid. Officers say he was driving while intoxicated when they stopped him.

He was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Substance and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (a spring assisted knife).

A 10-year-old child, who also lives at the house, was in the car at the time as well.

Police did not immediately give details on custody issues or the child's well-being.

A homeless man, 25-year-old Sean Mahavik was also a passenger in the car. He was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug.

Police say the investigation remains open and there may be further charges pending.
