Daily Talker: Should Smoking Be Banned At The Beach?

Starting next week, smoking will be banned at six beaches at Cape Cod National Seashore.

Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach in Eastham, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, Race Point Beach and Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, and Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro will all prohibit smoking in guarded areas.

Visitors will be allowed to smoke at non-guarded areas.

Seashore Superintendent George Price says the change comes after complaints from visitors about secondhand smoke.

"We've really taken notice of it and done a little bit of research and found our for instance on Cape Cod there's at least four towns that prohibit smoking on all of their beaches and each of these towns have 10 or 11, 13 beaches each," Price said.

No smoking areas will be clearly marked,

Do you think smoking should be banned at other beaches as well? Why? Share your comments below, and watch for them on WBZ News in the Morning from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.
