DA: Mutilated Body Found On Beach In Sandwich

SANDWICH (CBS) - A mutilated body was discovered at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich, the District Attorney's Office confirmed on Thursday.

Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe, offered few details about the discovery, but said a passer-by noticed something suspicious on Wednesday around 8 p.m. and called police.

Bret Cerulli and a friend made the discovery Wednesday night. He said they found a large tarp that was wrapped around trash bags that held a duffel bag. Cerulli said they called police when they saw blood. He said police arrived and found a man's body inside the bag. The District Attorney's office has not released any information about the victim.

Investigators said they believe the person had been killed somewhere else and dumped at the beach. They said they thought it had not been there for more than two days.

The body was behind the jersey barriers at the end of the parking lot.

Police have not located what they describe as the initial crime scene.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Town Neck Beach between Monday and Wednesday to report any suspicious vehicles or unusual activity they might have noticed.
