Daily Talker: What Would You Say To The Honest Track Coach?

The boys' track coach at North Attleboro High School is teaching his players a lesson in honesty and good sportsmanship.

Derek Herber's team won the Division 2 Eastern Mass. title on Sunday. While reviewing the official results the next day, Herber discovered a scoring error in one of the final races.

"Originally they placed one of my athletes in second place, which scores eight points, and he actually got seventh, which only scores two points," said Herber.

After double checking the numbers, Herber called the state to tell them about the mistake. Another phone call went to Central Catholic -- the school that should have won originally. The scoring error actually dropped North Attleboro to third place.

"I think our kids were a little bit disappointed, but I also think they understood it was the right thing to do," said Herber.

Herber will bring the championship trophy to the all-state track meet this weekend and give it to Central Catholic's coach.

If your kids played for Coach Herber, what would you say to him? Share your comments below, and watch for them on WBZ News in the Morning from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.
