Confirmed Case Of Whooping Cough At Walpole Elementary School

WALPOLE (CBS) - A confirmed case of Pertussis has been reported at a Walpole elementary school.

A student at the Boyden Elementary School tested positive for Pertussis, also called Whooping Cough, officials said.

Walpole school officials say they have informed parents of students who may have been exposed.

The school says it is working with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Health officials say that the illness is beyond the point of being contagious at the school.

Pertussis is highly contagious a bacterial infection that develops into a cough and typically lasts for several weeks.

A vaccine is available and the illness is treatable with antibiotics.
