Report: Accused Drunk Driver Punched Police Dog

BRAINTREE (CBS) – An accused drunk driver is reportedly facing several charges after police say he punched a police dog and spit at first responders.

It happened Thursday night in the Union Street rotary in Braintree, according to the Patriot Ledger.

Police said the man crashed his van into a light pole and then ran toward a nearby motel.

He was eventually tracked down in some woods, where officers say he tried to fight off a police dog by punching it.

The man was captured and an ambulance was called in to treat him, but according to the paper, he spit on the EMT's and police.

His name has not been released. He is said to be from Plymouth.

He's charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on police and ambulance personnel, drunk driving, and interfering with a police dog.
