Driver Claims A Bee Caused Rollover Crash In Ashland

ASHLAND (CBS) – A crash in Ashland early Friday morning was apparently caused by a bee.

A 2003 BMW SUV rolled over on Winter Street just before 6 a.m.

When officers arrived, they say the driver told them an unusual story.

“When we spoke to him, it appeared there was a bee in the car,” Ashland police chief Craig Davis told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

“It distracted his attention from driving the car, then struck a curb on the side of the road and then rolled over, landing on its roof.”

The 50-year-old driver, who was not identified, was the only person in the SUV.

He was not hurt and not stung.

But he was charged for unlicensed operation because he did not have a driver’s license.

Davis did not know if the man had an allergy to bee stings.
