Police say they responded to the couple’s home on Angelo Street at about 11 p.m. for reports of a domestic disturbance.
“Stephanie came over and just was knocking on the door, calling for help. I went over and provided some assistance until emergency services got there,” a neighbor said.
Officers found a 31-year-old man unresponsive inside the home suffering from a single stab wound. He was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
Police say the couple had a “long-term relationship” and that they were arguing before the man was stabbed.
Fernandes is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Worcester County District Court.
