Downtown Crossing MBTA Station Closed Briefly Due To Bomb Scare

BOSTON (CBS) - The MBTA's Downtown Crossing station was closed for nearly an hour Wednesday morning for the investigation of a bomb scare.

Transit Police say a man went down to the Orange Line platform around 8:30 a.m. with a box and appeared to be acting suspiciously.

Two T employees spoke to him and noticed a rope or wire hanging from the box.

They called MBTA Police who took the man into custody and then brought him to Massachusetts General Hospital for evaluation.

The station was shut down for the investigation.

No explosives were found and there was nothing suspicious in the box.

Police said it was filled with clothes and paper.

The scene was cleared around 9:45 a.m.

The man's name has not been released.
