Drastic Changes Ahead

After yesterday's surge into the splendid 70s, it's still warm and rather muggy today as temperatures rise to the middle to upper 60s this afternoon. April has actually turned out milder than we had expected a month ago thanks to the warm days over the past week. That is all going to change as a strong cold front moves through the region late this afternoon and evening. At 1 PM, it's 68 in Boston while it's only 32 and snowing in Buffalo. Temperatures will fall to the upper 40s by midnight then to the upper 30s by 6am and will stay below average for the next 3 days. Overnight low temperatures will drop into the middle 30s along the coast to the middle 20s farther inland where some frost may occur.

Before the arrival of the cold front, strong southerly winds will blow at 20-30 mph with a few gusts approaching 45-50 mph this afternoon to early evening. A Wind Advisory has been posted by the National Weather Service. Scattered showers will become more widespread and downpours will occur through the evening. Watch for ponding on roadways in poor drainage areas. Behind the frontal passage, colder air may cause a brief switch to wet snow in the predawn hours. There should NOT be any accumulation.

High pressure will control the weather in the Northeast through Friday. There is a risk of some low clouds rolling in from out over the ocean and covering the sky from time to time mainly over southeastern MA and Cape Cod where the northeast wind will be most brisk and cold. Looking ahead, the next weather maker will trigger some scattered showers here on Saturday followed by partly sunny weather on Easter Sunday with highs in the 50s. Presently, the outlook for Marathon Monday calls for sunny to partly cloudy weather with temperatures starting out in the lower to middle 30s with afternoon highs in the lower 60s.
