Lynnfield Native Found Dead In Nicaragua

BOSTON (CBS) - A Lynnfield native who was reported missing in Nicaragua has been found dead and a suspect is in custody.

Karen Colclough, who most recently lived in Wyoming, was on a mission with the group Argos International working with local farmers.

Colclough's parents received a call Monday evening that their daughter's body was found. Janet Colclough said a pastor told her Karen's body was found a quarter-mile north of the Nicaraguan resort where the mission group was staying. She also said a suspect was in custody.

Earlier in the day, searchers had looked in a pond with alligators for any sign of the 37-year-old. Karen's parents said their daughter went for a walk and had her camera, bible and notebook. Those three items had not been found near the pond and they did not think that search would come up with anything.

Colclough was last seen Friday. A farmer was the last one to report seeing her alive.

Colclough and the small church group were staying at the resort before heading back to the U.S. The resort was considered secure and safe, according to her parents.

Her friends and members of the resort searched for her, but found no trace.

Her parents, Janet and Doug, said their daughter was always willing to help anyone. They said she loved the outdoors. The couple said she was responsible and was not concerned about her handling herself in the wilderness. They were afraid of someone taking advantage of her kindness.
