Friend Running Marathon In Place Of Bombing Survivor

BOSTON (CBS) -- Adrienne Haslet-Davis has been on a marathon of her own this past year.

Haslet-Davis was five feet away from the second bomb last year, which tore through her left foot. The professional dancer has since been adjusting to her new prosthesis.

"It's hard to believe that it's been a year. In some ways it feels like it's been ten and in some ways it feels like it was yesterday," Haslet-Davis told WBZ-TV's Beth Germano.

Her friend, Stacy Friedman, is enabling her to run the marathon in a way, this year, even though Adrienne is physically unable to participate.

Friedman, who was also at the finish line last year, will run with a number given to Adrienne. She says that she is using her friend's progress as her motivation.

"What gets me through it is just thinking about Adrienne and all of the obstacles that she's overcome in the past year," said Friedman.

Friedman is not only running for her friend; she is also raising money for Limbs for Life, which helps people afford fully functional prosthetics.

"I can never stop thinking about the people who are going through similar, tragic limb loss for any other reason and not having the support that we've had," said Haslet-Davis.

Adrienne hopes to be standing on Boylston Street to watch her friend cross the finish line.
