Report: Brian Hoyer Trying To Recruit Edelman For Browns

BOSTON (CBS) -- Julian Edelman is testing the free agent waters, and he is currently feeling some love from another former Patriot.

Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer, who played three seasons in New England as Tom Brady's backup, is reportedly trying to get Edelman to join him in Cleveland this off-season.

Though Hoyer was a backup and Edelman was a former college quarterback making the move to wide receiver when they made the Patriots' roster in 2009, the two did hook up on some passes during Hoyer's time with the Patriots. Hoyer connected with Edelman eight times for 75 yards over their three years together, with most of the connections coming in garbage time or in Game 17 of the regular season.

Hoyer started three games for the Browns in 2013, all Cleveland wins, before an ACL injury ended his season in Week 5. He is currently the only quarterback on Cleveland's depth chart following the release of Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell earlier this week.

Edelman turned down a reported three-year offer from the Patriots on Tuesday, opting to test the free agent market. He led the Patriots in 2013 with a career-high 105 receptions for 1, 056 yards and six touchdowns.
