TD Garden Blames Protective Netting Injuries On 'Mechanical Failure'
BOSTON (AP) — Parents of two young Maine women hurt when a metal bar tumbled onto them at the TD Garden say both suffered concussions.
Twenty-one-year-old Sabina Grasso of Cumberland and 20-year-old Anna McDonough of Scarborough were taking pictures along with a third friend during a birthday outing Thursday.
The bar that fell on them held up a safety net designed to keep pucks from flying into the crowd.
TD Garden issued a statement Monday blaming the incident on a "mechanical failure."
Initial reports characterized the injuries as minor, but the girls' parents say they both suffered serious concussions.
McDonough's father, who's in charge of criminal investigations for the Maine State Police, told New England Cable News that the women suffered head, neck and back injuries and "took a hell of an impact."
