Brookline Police Investigate Possible Sex Assault

BROOKLINE (CBS) – Police say a woman found unconscious early Saturday morning in Brookline may have been the victim of a sexual assault.

The 31-year-old woman, who was found on the ground near 670 Washington Street, was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Speaking with the woman at the hospital, police learned that she was possibly the victim of a sex assault.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday night, the victim was at the Washington Square Tavern. Ethan Frawley was working the bar. He knows the woman and says she was in good spirits and not impaired when she left. "She talked to some people, customers next to her, but that's it," Frawley says. "She left by herself."

After leaving the restaurant, the victim walked a half block to 7-Eleven and then headed toward her car on Washington Street. At least one witness saw her walking with an unknown man. The victim was found on the sidewalk less than an hour later.

Police are looking for a man who they are calling a "person of interest" in the case. He is described as a white male approximately 30 years of age, 5'10" – 6' tall. He had light brown hair, a beard, blue eyes and was wearing a brown down style jacket.

Anyone in the Washington Square area between 11:30 p.m. and 12:10 a.m. and who may have seen something are urged to contact the Brookline Police at 617-730-2222.

Brookline Police say they will have foot patrols in the area in the future.
