Man Shot By Hingham Police After Chase

HINGHAM (CBS) -- An investigation is underway into a police-involved shooting early Sunday.

Shortly before 2 a.m., Hingham Police say they received a call from Brian Middendorf, 34, who said he had a handgun and was on Beale Street.

Police went to Middendorf's Hillside Terrace address and saw a car pulling away from the residence. Police pursued the car, being driven by Middendorf. He eventually stopped the car, got out and pointed what appeared to be a gun at police.

The Plymouth County District Attorney's office says a Hingham officer shot Middendorf. He was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his right thigh and arm. He is in critical condition but is expected to survive.

Middendorf has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police and driving to endanger.

The DA says police recovered Middendorf's weapon, a black pellet gun, that resembled a semi-automatic handgun.

The incident remains under investigation.
