3 Vt. Men Charged In 2010 Killing Of 78-Year-Old Former Mass. Woman

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — Two of three Vermont men suspected of killing a Sheffield woman during a botched 2010 robbery of her home are due in court Monday to face first-degree murder and other charges.

And an arrest warrant has been issued for a third suspect, state police said.

Richard Fletcher, 27, and Keith Baird, 33, are scheduled to answer murder and other charges during the appearance, according to records at the Caledonia Superior Court in St. Johnsbury.

Fletcher, Baird and Michael Norrie, 23, all of Sheffield, have been publicly named as suspects in the shooting death of Pat O'Hagan, 78, a mother of five and grandmother of nine who disappeared on Sept. 10, 2010. Her body was found by hunters three weeks later in Wheelock.

All three men are in state or federal custody on charges unrelated to O'Hagan's death.

Fletcher and Baird were cited to appear in court on Monday. Norrie is being held at a federal prison in Pennsylvania after a federal conviction on gun charges. It's unclear when Norrie will be returned to Vermont to face the murder charges.

Court records in unrelated cases indicate Norrie, his cousin Fletcher and his brother Baird, all of Sheffield, were involved in the killing of O'Hagan. She was shot in the head.

"It was great news for our family," son Mark O'Hagan told the Burlington Free Press. He said the family first learned that the men were considered suspects three years ago.

The case alarmed the normally quiet Northeast Kingdom community.

Caledonia County State's Attorney Lisa Warren did not return a call Friday seeking comment.
