Police Charge Man For Pointing Laser At Driver In Newton Centre

NEWTON (CBS) --- Police have charged a 21- year-old man with pointing a laser at a driver in Newton Centre.

That man, whose name has not yet been released, is facing assault and battery and disorderly conduct charges. He'll face a judge on March 25.

"He (the driver) noticed a person standing on the street. The person was holding something that emitted a green laser type of light shining it at his face and eyes. He says it was dazzling to his eyes," Newton police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, said after the incident.

Later that same night, police received a report of someone shining a green laser beam into the cockpit of a flight taking off from Logan Airport. Newton police say the strike was traced to Forte Park off California Street in Newton. They searched the area but found nothing.

Wednesday, police said the incident involving the airplane is still under investigation and it's unknown if the two laser beam strikes are related.
