Logan Parking Reaches Capacity, Drivers Sent To Suffolk Downs

BOSTON (CBS) --- Logan Airport closed down its parking after reaching capacity, Tuesday morning.

Any travelers headed to Logan will have to park off-site at Suffolk Downs along Route 1A in East Boston. There will be no charge for parking and Massport will provide shuttle service to and from the airport terminals every 15 minutes.

The overflow is being blamed on Massachusetts families coming home from February vacation and New Hampshire families heading out on their breaks.

"We have exhausted the number of spaces we have for cars to be parked here," explained Ed Freni, Massport Director of Aviation.

"We have parked cars in just about every single spot we have available," Freni said.

He encouraged travelers to consider using Logan Express buses, the Silver Line or the Blue Line for transportation to the airport instead of driving.

Massport expects parking to resume at Logan at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Logan Airport has 16,200 lined spaces, according to Massport.
