NEWBURYPORT (CBS) – A paraglider died Saturday a short time after he was pulled out of the frigid water off Plum Island.

The Coast Guard received a call just before 5 p.m. about a man in a self-powered parachute that had crashed into the water, which was 38 degrees at the time.

A rescue team in a lifeboat pulled him out and he was rushed to Anna Jaques Hospital, where police say he died.

His name has not been released.

Police said he was 49 years old and from Rhode Island.
