Nashua, NH Police Investigating Case Of Seriously Injured 1-Year-Old

NASHUA, N.H. (CBS) — Nashua, New Hampshire police are trying to figure out what happened to a child who was taken to a hospital on Wednesday morning with serious injuries.

Police say the 13-month-old boy showed up with one of his parents at a hospital in Nashua.

"The child had some serious injuries and was subsequently transported to a hospital in Manchester for more intensive care," said Lt. Frank Sullivan of the Nashua Police Department.

Sullivan says the boy suffered a head injury, but was conscious and crying when taken to the hospital, and that he should survive.

Investigators are interviewing whoever may have come into contact with the child.

Police have also showed up at the apartment on Ash Street to investigate.

"I (saw) police outside for a very long time," said neighbor Catherine Kovich. "They shined lights into both of the doors. The doors were open and the spotlights were on the doors for hours and hours."

Rocio Mendoza just saw the child at a birthday party. She also knows the boy's mother.

"I never expected this because she's a nice girl and they're all so quiet," said Mendoza. "They mind their business."

Messages from WBZ-TV to the child's family have not been returned.
