BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston College football team announced its 30 signees for 2014 on Wednesday, a group that includes 12 players from New England.
The Eagles picked up 16 offensive players – five offensive linemen, three running backs, three wide receivers, two quarterbacks, two athletes and one tight end.
BC bolstered its defense by signing 14 players, including six defensive linemen – and four linebackers. Four defensive backs were added to the secondary.
“I am excited about our class. We filled some real needs. This is a good group of guys,” head coach Steve Addazio said of Wednesday’s signees. “They understand Boston College, they want to get an elite degree and play for a championship title.”
“We are going to be a young football team. That is a good thing,” added Addazio. “We are going to build for the future.”
The local athletes committing to BC are: offensive lineman Jon Baker of Millis (two-time Tri-Valley Lineman of the Year), linebacker Kevin Bletzer of Medfield (who earned All-Conference Player of the Year honors as a senior at Catholic Memorial), quarterback Troy Flutie of Natick (named ESPNBoston’s Massachusetts Mr. Football), offensive lineman James Hendren of Newton (named 2013 NE Prep School Athletic Conference Lineman of the Year), linebacker Connor Strachman of Wellesley (ranked ESPN’s #2 prospect in Massachusetts), and defensive back Isaac Yiadom of Worcester (ranked EPN’s #3 recruit from MA).
