Judge: Salem Man Accused Of Abuse 'An Animal Who Needs To Be Caged'

BEVERLY (CBS) --- A mixed martial arts instructor is held without bail in a disturbing case of alleged abuse against his live-in girlfriend.

Joseph Louf is accused of beating his girlfriend so badly, she sustained two detached retinas, a broken nose and broken teeth.

Louf's lawyer argued at a dangerousness hearing Tuesday, that the woman sustained injuries while practicing mixed martial arts.

On the stand, the alleged victim told the court Louf had beaten her daily, stabbed her in the neck and ear with scissors, poured rubbing alcohol on her face and rubbed his knees into her eyes until they were swollen shut.

Calling him "an animal that needs to be caged," the judge called it "the worst case of systematic violence he's ever seen."

Louf will remain held with no bail.
