At about 6:23 a.m., Cambridge Police were dispatched to an apartment building at 396 Putnam Ave. to investigate reports of an unconscious man, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Cambridge Police reported in a prepared statement. When they arrived, the officers found Dana Robinson, 46, of Cambridge, on the porch of the building with a severe stab wound.

Robinson was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy will be performed by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

After an investigation conducted by Cambridge Police and state police detectives assigned to the DA's office, Malia Gomez, 40, of Cambridge, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and armed assault with intent to murder, officials said.

Gomez is expected to be arraigned Monday in Cambridge District Court.
