Sports Hub, WBZ-TV's Super Bowl Predictions

BOSTON (CBS) - The 98.5 The Sports Hub and WBZ-TV Sports teams make their predictions for Sunday's Super Bowl XLVIII.

Steve Burton, WBZ-TV Sports

They say defense wins championships, but on Sunday, we shall see.

Sunday will pit the NFL's best offense against the league's best defense. The Broncos are averaging 37.9 points per game this postseason, while Seattle has allowed an average of just 14.4 points.

Something has to give.

Peyton Manning has a chance to do something no other quarterback has done in NFL history: win a Super Bowl with two different franchise.

But while Denver may have more talent, Seattle has more heart.

Dan Roche, WBZ-TV Sports

I thought at the beginning of the season that Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos would win it all, and I'm sticking with it. As great as the Seahawks defense is, Peyton has too many weapons.

I think the Seahawks are a great team, but they can be beaten outside of the noise factory in Seattle and the weather should be OK for Manning.

This game will be won/lost in the trenches, and I think Denver is playing well there on both sides of the football.

Seattle will take a quick lead, and Denver will fight back to make a game out of it, but it won't be enough.

It's interesting that we'll have an old-style quarterback going against a new-style quarterback. Russell Wilson is trying to break the mold, because his style of quarterbacks has never won.

Denver has too many weapons though, and Peyton Manning has never had that "Disney World" moment. He'll get it in this one, and Patriots fans will have to live with Manning having two Super Bowls wins.

Bob Socci, 98.5 The Sports Hub

I like the Broncos. There are just too many weapons for Manning and Denver has a good enough defense to contain Marshawn Lynch and put pressure on Russell Wilson.

Albert Breer, 98.5 The Sports Hub/NFL Network

Seattle will score a touchdown on defense, and the better team will win. The Broncos are great on offense but when you look at it, the team that can beat you the most amount of ways are the Seahawks. In big games like this, those are the types of teams that win.

Wes Welker will drop the game-winning pass.

Fred Toucher, 98.5 The Sports Hub

(After hearing Rich's prediction) Denver 31, Seattle 17 -- and that's actually going to happen.

Rob "Hardy" Poole, 98.5 The Sports Hub

I'm not just giving you a winner, I'm telling you exactly how it's going to happen.

The game will go to overtime, because I've been betting for now the 14th straight year that it would go to overtime, and if it doesn't happen I won't break even.

So because of the outdoor conditions and Seattle's defense, I predict overtime. In overtime, Russell Wilson will move his team down the field and into field goal range to give Seattle the lead. Then they'll stop the Broncos on the ensuing possession for the win, and Wilson will be named the game's MVP.
