DA: Hospital Police Officer Sold Drugs While On Duty In Somerville

SOMERVILLE (CBS) - A Special Police Officer at a local hospital was arrested in on Thursday for allegedly selling cocaine while in uniform to an undercover officer.

Police say on at least three separate occasions, William Kelly, 32, was on duty as a Special Officer at the Cambridge Health Alliance when he sold drugs to an undercover officer. He also allegedly offer to sell MDMA, or "Molly" to the undercover officer.

A Massachusetts Special State Police Officer is sanctioned to make arrests and conduct investigations. Special State Police Officers generally are employed by hospitals or colleges and are not employed by the Massachusetts State Police.

Kelly is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and possession of cocaine.

"This defendant's responsibility was to protect the patients at the hospital facilities where he worked and instead, we allege, that he was engaged in the sale of narcotics," District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement.
