NH Lawmakers To Try Again To Regulate Drones, Ensure Privacy
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Despite a defeat last year, a pair of New Hampshire lawmakers is determined to resurrect an effort to limit the use of drones to protect residents' privacy.
Republican state Reps. Neal Kurk and Joe Duarte have sponsored bills to require police to get a warrant if they want to use evidence obtained by using drones as surveillance.
Kurk's bill also would require the public to first obtain permission from affected property owners to conduct surveillance using drones. His bill would prohibit government drones from being equipped with weapons.
The New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police and an international trade group devoted to advancing unmanned systems oppose the limits. But the New Hampshire chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union supports their basic objectives.
