It happened shortly before 10 a.m. on Route 16 in Wakefield, New Hampshire.

The crash involved a Toyota 4Runner and a gray Jeep Liberty. Police say Julia Vanella, 16, of Malden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Julia's mother was driving, her 13-year-old sister was also in the car. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three people in the Jeep Liberty were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the Toyota was going northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Jeep Liberty.

There's no word on what may have caused the crash but police say the roads were icy.

Sunday night, Julia's classmates held a vigil at Malden High School.
