Behind The Mic With Joe Mathieu: Most Stressful Jobs

BOSTON (CBS) – The most stressful job you can have is in the military.

That's what they say at CareerCast.com, where they've ranked the most stressful ways to make a living. An enlisted member of the military is tops on the list followed by military general and firefighter.

They of course all have one thing in common - their jobs can kill them.

And indeed, what could be more stressful than the risk of death?

CareerCast says it looked for jobs that require you to face unpredictable conditions, immediate dangers and high stakes situations. So it's no surprise to see airline pilot next on the list.

But things get a little weird after that.

Airline pilot is followed somewhat strangely by event coordinator and then by public relations executive. They say that's because they face a lot of deadline pressure.

News anchor does not fall on the list. But newspaper reporter is number 8, ranked above police officer.

And, of course, the police know nothing about stress.

Which brings us to the real point here - stress is a relative thing.

A study by the American Institute of Stress finds stress in any given profession depends not on the job as much as the individual.

Which may explain why everyone seems to think they have the most stressful job.
