Canton Police Track Down Owner Of Three Lost Mini Horses

CANTON (CBS) - Officers and firefighters rounded up three miniature horses Saturday after motorists reported the trio running along the side of Route 138, the police said.

At about 1:45 p.m., emergency dispatchers began receiving calls about the miniature horses from drivers who were afraid the animals would be struck on the busy road.

Officers and firefighters were able to corral the small horse in the parking lot of the Ponkapoag Fire Station, the police reported in a prepared statement Saturday night.

Police then put out a tweet asking for help identifying and locating the owners. "The response we received was overwhelming," the police said, adding they got offers from as far away as Upton to board the horses until their owners could be found.

The owners eventually realized the horses had escaped their enclosure, contacted the police, "and they were quickly reunited," the police said.

The miniature horses -- named Max, Captive and Kiss -- are therapeutic ponies that work with mentally and developmentally disabled children, the police said.
