Daily Talker: Was It Disrespectful Of Beyonce To Use The NASA Audio Recording?

It's NASA vs. Beyonce.

NASA doesn't like the singer's new song "XO" because it uses NASA's audio recorded moments after the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded.

In the beginning of the song you hear the voice of NASA public affairs officer Steve Nesbitt saying, "Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously, a major malfunction."

NASA officials say the Challenger disaster should never be trivialized.  The 1986 accident was the worst in NASA's history.  It rocked the nation.  All seven crew members, including New Hampshire teacher Christa McAuliffe, were killed.  Families of the victims say they are disappointed in the singer for using the audio recording.

Beyonce finally responded. She claims it was meant as a tribute to help heal those who have lost loved ones.  And remind us that unexpected things can happen.

In a statement, the singer said, "The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten."

Her song "XO" is about a failing relationship and making sure you take the time to appreciate what you have because life can change in an instant.
