Police: Lawrence Man Beat 10-Week-Old With Tablet In Pillow Case

NASHUA, NH (CBS) – A Lawrence man is facing horrific allegations of child abuse for allegedly beating his girlfriend's 10-week-old son with a computer tablet.

Enrique Santiago, 20, was arrested in Lawrence, Mass. this week.

Police say Santiago was watching the boy on December 26 in Nashua, New Hampshire while the boy's mother was at a work.

At some point during the day, Santiago is accused of putting a tablet computer inside a pillow-case and swinging the pillow case at the boy's face, intentionally striking him.

The boy's mother brought him to the hospital. He was suffering bleeding on the brain, brain swelling, retinal bleeding, fractured ribs, as well as leg and arm fractures. He is currently in critical but stable condition.

The baby boy is expected to survive, but may have suffered permanent disabilities as a result of the attack.

Santiago is also accused of repeatedly attacking the boy over the course of eight weeks; grabbing, squeezing, shaking, striking and slamming the boy, causing a number of injuries.

Santiago faces multiple assault charges, and is being held on $1 million bail.
