BOSTON (CBS) — An anonymous diner at an Agawam restaurant paid it forward in a big way this holiday season.

On Friday night, Marine Jon Janosz, went out for a nice dinner at the Federal Restaurant & Bar with his girlfriend Ally Sweet and two other military couples.

The three men, Janosz, Tom Cote and Anthony Girouard joined the service in the past six months and were home for the holidays.

The couples expected the bill to be more than $400 but when they asked for the check, the waitress told them an anonymous patron paid for their meals as a thank you for their service.

When the couples asked the waitress who they could thank, the waitress said the patron had already left.
