Patriots Secure No. 2 Seed In AFC, Will Host Saturday Divisional Round Game
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Patriots have clinched the second seed in the AFC and the first-round playoff bye that comes with it.
With their 34-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the Patriots finished the regular season with a 12-4 record, good enough for the second spot in the conference, trailing only Denver at 13-3.
The Patriots needed a win on Sunday to secure the No. 2 seed, after the Bengals defeated the Ravens in Cincinnati to finish the season with an 11-5 record.
Since 2001, the Patriots under Bill Belichick have secured a first-round playoff bye in eight of 13 seasons.
The league announced the Patriots will host their divisional round game on Saturday, January 11 at 8:15 p.m.. The game will air on CBS, and the Patriots will host the highest remaining seed from wild-card weekend, either the Colts, Chiefs or Bengals.
The Patriots lost to the Bengals this season, and they did not play the Colts or Chiefs.
