Federal judge Sides With MBTA, Upholds Ban On Anti-Palestinian Advertisement

BOSTON (CBS) — A federal judge has upheld the MBTA’s refusal to post an advertisement that implied Palestinians are “savage.”

In a ruling dated Dec. 20, U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel Gorton decided against granting an injunction to force the MBTA to run the advertisement from the American Freedom Defense Initiative.

“The MBTA is gratified by Judge Gorton’s decision that it acted reasonably in not accepting AFDI’s proposed advertisement,” Beverly Scott, general manager of the public transit agency, said in a prepared statement. “We will continue to administer our guidelines even-handedly so that our customers will not be subjected to advertisements that demean or disparage any person or group.”

The proposed advertisement had the following wording: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat jihad.”
