Autopsy Planned For NH Victim Of Apparent Homicide

KEENE, N.H. (CBS) -- Investigators looking into the weekend killing of a Keene man need the public's help to solve the crime.

They are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area of 170 Pearl St. between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Investigators know the timeframe of the homicide based on a 911 call and phone conversations the victim had earlier.

"This is awful," said Arlene Guyette, a neighbor on Pearl Street.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old David Wheelock. Investigators believe he was shot to death. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday to try to conclusively determine the nature and cause of the Keene man's death.

Public records show Wheelock was convicted of multiple counts of child pornography in 2005.

"Obviously, we look into everyone's background if they're a victim of a homicide," N.H. Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati said.

Neighbors said they often saw Wheelock, who used a wheelchair, being pulled by his dogs around the neighborhood.

Investigators have no motive and no suspects, the police said.

Wheelock had at least one roommate, according to multiple neighbors.

It is not known who called 911 on Saturday.

"I heard he had problems in the past," neighbor Tom Bird said. "I didn't want him near my kids but nobody deserves to get shot like that."
