Vehicle Hits, Seriously Injures Jogger On Route 117 In Bolton

BOLTON (CBS) -- A woman jogging along Route 117 was seriously injured Friday morning when a vehicle struck her from behind, the police said.

At about 8:56 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian had been struck on Route 117 westbound near the intersection with Route 110. When officers arrived, they found a 39-year-old Bolton woman had been hit while she was jogging in the breakdown lane.

The driver stopped immediately to help provide first aid, the police said.

The jogger was thrown at least 20 feet and suffered serious injuries. A Medflight helicopter was called but was delayed, so the woman was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, the police said. She was conscious during the trip to the hospital.

The driver was not injured in the crash, the police said.

Route 117 was closed in both directions until 11:30 a.m. while investigators worked at the crash scene.

The driver, who is in his late 50s, will likely face motor vehicle violation charges, the police said.

The Massachusetts State Police is conducting an accident reconstruction investigation.
