WALTHAM (CBS) — Student Santa has been a tradition for 30 years, but Waltham High students may have just outdone themselves this year.

The school raised $30,000 to buy gifts for less-fortunate children this season.

All of those gifts were wrapped on Thursday and ready to go to 300 children.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karen Twomey reports

“These presents are going to real people, there are kids behind these coats, it’s not just a coat,” senior Anthony said.

Steve Goodwin brought the idea to Waltham High decades ago and started with just 10 or 15 families.

He says it’s incredible just how far the program has come since then.
