West Yarmouth Man Wins $1 Million Of Mega Millions Jackpot
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — A West Yarmouth man is $1 million richer having missed Tuesday night’s Mega Millions jackpot by just one number.
Elie Bassil purchased his ticket at a Cumberland Farms in South Yarmouth.
He had the first five numbers correct, but missed the Mega Ball.
Five tickets worth $1 million were sold in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut and Ohio. Those tickets matched the first five numbers.
Wednesday morning, Bassil picked up his winnings – $700,000 after taxes – at lottery headquarters in Braintree.
Bassil, who is in his early 30’s, told lottery officials he plans to return to Lebanon to start his own business.
He was one of five $1 million winners from Tuesday’s drawing.
With no winner, Friday’s jackpot will be $400 million, the second largest in Mega Millions history.
In 2012, a $656 million jackpot was split between three winners.
The winning numbers were: 5, 12, 22, 41, 65 and the Mega Ball 13.
