YARMOUTH (CBS) — A female pedestrian was struck and killed late Saturday afternoon on Route 6, the Massachusetts State Police reported.

The collision occurred near Exit 8 and the highway was closed between Exit 8 and Exit 7 while public safety officials worked at the scene.

The victim is identified as a 32-year-old woman from Yarmouthport.

Police say the woman was walking in the roadway when she was struck by two vehicles.

Both drivers stopped and spoke with police. No citations were issued.

Police don’t know why the woman was walking in the road.

Route 6 westbound was re-opened at about 8 p.m., the state police reported in a prepared statement.
